Alkay Lanolin Hoof Ointment

They're Harder to Beat When They're Happy With Their Feet

When the weather becomes warmer and horses are required to work over hard and dry ground, the horny structures of the hoof are deprived of moisture they would receive in colder climatic circumstances. Under these conditions the moisture supplied by the blood is insufficient to keep the foot in normal condition. If nothing is done to remedy this situation, the hoof rapidly hardens and becomes inelastic which can contribute to an array of conditions such as corns, bruising, frog wasting away, quarter crack, heel contraction, etc.

Concussion is the enemy of the equine athlete’s performance and soundness. The horses feet are his natural shock absorbers, if his feet have no elasticity, the concussion is not limited to the feet causing congestion and pain, it can continue up the leg stressing bones, joints and ligaments. Therefore foot care is not just cosmetic; it is a must for the serious horseman.

The best foot care, we believe, comes from lanolin, renowned for its emollient (something that softens) and moisturising properties, which constitutes 80% of our product.

Alkay Lanolin Hoof Ointment also contains;

Paraffin

Medicinal quality paraffin is blended with lanolin to create the texture required with the added benefit of its own emollient action

Stockholm Tar
